Iain Dale’s Top Liberal Democrat blogs Sep 24

Iain Dale’s Guide to Political Blogging in the UK (snappy title there, Iain) is out today, so Iain has posted up on his blog the top 100 Liberal Democrat blogs as voted for by a panel of LibDem bloggers – including this one. (Last year’s list was drawn up by Iain himself.)

No geek is an island is down one from 2006, at 13 – not bad given the relative sparsity of posts this year. Millennium Dome, Elephant leaps 70 places up to number 7, and Jonathan Calder, perennial runner-up in the party’s Blog of the Year Awards, takes a well-deserved first place.

The full list is here. (Via.)

Shut it, you slags Sep 17

I’m in Brighton for party conference, finally with a chance to blog. Been very busy putting videos online, running training sessions and, last night, at the Blog of the Year Awards. Congratulations to all the winners, and hello to the bloggers I met for the first time.

This morning, I had phone calls with a couple of people from the BBC about the awards, giving them background information about the awards, talking them through who won, and putting them in touch with Blogger of the Year James Graham.

There’s a maxim when dealing with journalists: always assume you’re on the record. As such, when I found myself unexpectedly quoted on the BBC website, it was a pleasant surprise. Reading back what I said, though, I do think I could perhaps have been a little more erudite when praising James – so let’s assume “slag off” was me being “spikey“…

Anyway, here is a lovely photo of myself and the winners, courtesy Alex Folkes/Fishnik.com.

Blog the Year Awards: Shortlists announced Sep 05

Once I’d heard that Best Liberal Democrat Blog to Feature a Fair Amount of Doctor Who Stuff* and Best Video Made in October 2006 Spoofing a Party Leader on a Liberal Democrat Blog weren’t going to be categories this year, I jumped at the chance to take part in the judging process for the Liberal Democrats’ Blog of the Year Awards. The shortlisting stage is now complete and you can see which blogs we’ve chosen on Liberal Democrat Voice.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on the Sunday evening of party conference in Brighton.

*I was never going to win that with Alex and Millennium around, but I could have held out hope of a shortlisting

By-elections! Jul 18

Hello from the Ealing Southall constituency. The by-elections here and in Sedgefield poll tomorrow, so I’ll be able to get back to blogging about relatively normal things (and be able to take a holiday) very soon.

In the mean time, though, a quick note that Nigel Bakhai’s Southall HQ is very busy with Liberal Democrat members and supporters today but that we can, of course, always do with more help. So if there’s any way you can get here between now and the close of poll (10pm) tomorrow, please do. We’ll be open late this evening and from very early tomorrow morning, so please get across to Southall whenever you can. Directions to the campaign nerve centre are here. And, of course, if it’s easier for you to get to Sedgefield to help Greg Stone’s excellent campaign up there, please go as soon as possible – directions are here.
