Blasts from the past Sep 26

Cleaning out an old website today, I came across some extra information to add to my Gig List. Despite being unable to remember anything about their set at all, I apparently saw Echobelly at V97.

It also turns out I saw tall comedian Marcus Brigstocke do standup in December 1997. No memory of it whatsoever.

Ian Blair: Cocaine is fine, but don’t tell the children Sep 23

OK, that’s not what he said, but…

On Wednesday, the Metropolitan police said they were “very likely” to interview her after launching an investigation into alleged cocaine use. Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan police commissioner, said he had ordered the investigation because of fears that the pictures could have a damaging effect on “impressionable young people”.

So the police aren’t interested in “possession of a Class A” substance (at least among celebrities) but are concerned that publishing pictures of its use is bad for the kids. In whch case, shouldn’t he be chasing the Daily Mirror rather than the user?

The fashion industry have reacted badly to this photo. Apparently it’s OK for everyone to know that salabrities use coke as long as there’s no evidence to prove it for certain.

Referrals Sep 22

Some odd searches that have brought people to my blog over the last day or so:

  1. victoria wood sandra yoghurt (that creates all sorts of unwanted images)
  2. r2d2 “deep roy” (no, it was Kenny Baker)
  3. sue johnston sun microsystems (I can’t think of Sue Johnston without picturing her shouting “Slade!”*)
  4. rose tyler’s ring (see 1)

(* If you don’ get this, you should be grateful for small mercies.)
