{"id":685,"date":"2006-06-23T18:50:04","date_gmt":"2006-06-23T17:50:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.willhowells.org.uk\/blog\/2006\/06\/23\/did-bob-neill-sign-a-false-statement\/"},"modified":"2006-06-23T20:19:02","modified_gmt":"2006-06-23T19:19:02","slug":"did-bob-neill-read-what-he-signed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.willhowells.org.uk\/blog\/2006\/06\/23\/did-bob-neill-read-what-he-signed\/","title":{"rendered":"Did Bob Neill read what he signed?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That&#8217;s the question spreading its way through teh internets this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Neill, already employed in various jobs and seeking to become Tory MP for Bromley &#038; Chislehurst, is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nelondon.nhs.uk\/?ID=343\">board member<\/a> of the North East London Strategic Health Authority (and you&#8217;re right, Bromley isn&#8217;t in North East London &#8211; well spotted).<\/p>\n<p>According the Part III of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guildford.gov.uk\/NR\/rdonlyres\/D055DF53-E476-4481-BC8C-A3FE011D64C2\/0\/HofCDisqualificationsAct1975app2.pdf\">Schedule 1 to the House of Commons Disqualification Act 1975<\/a>, among the &#8220;Other Disqualifying Offices&#8221; which would prevent one taking a seat in the House of Commons are:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Chairman or any member, not being also an employee, of any [Strategic Health Authority,] Health Authority or Special Health Authority which is a relevant authority for the purposes of paragraph 9(1) of Schedule 5 to the National Health Service Act 1977.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So this is one job from which Bob would have to resign if elected by the good people of Bromley.<\/p>\n<p>It does prompt a big question though, as raised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recessmonkey.com\/2006\/06\/23\/stop-press-bromley-candidate-invalidated\/\">the Monkey<\/a>. When Neill signed his nomination paper to stand in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ben4bromley.org.uk\">by-election<\/a>, did he have to certify that he was not covered by the provisions of the 1975 Act <strong>at the time of signing<\/strong>?
